Have you ever thought about what inspired you as a child and contributed to who you are and what you now do?
For me being a sports coach and PE teacher, a few things stand out, Here are three:-
Many years later my passion for physical education remains strong, as does my love of all ball sports especially table tennis, tennis, football, basketball, rugby and even dodgeball! Regarding Mr Lloyd the deputy head, he remains an inspiration because he made PE fun. I aim to be a similar inspiration by delivering enjoyable sport to many more children. My hope is that my work will inspire them to Rise Above, and to encourage others to also Rise Above.
I wonder what inspired others, and how that has affected their future lives.
For me being a sports coach and PE teacher, a few things stand out, Here are three:-
- I was brought up in Mid Wales, surrounded by mountains and sea. Both my parents were PE teachers in the local secondary school. Sport was very important to us all, whether it was watching or playing.
- Apparently before I could walk my favourite toy was a small blue ball. I would take it everywhere with me. Even back then my hand eye co-ordination skills were being uniquely nurtured!
- At six I moved and started at a new Primary School, we had a deputy head teacher who was PE trained. He was responsible for teaching sport throughout the school. His name was Mr Lloyd he was a bit of a show off as a fantastic gymnast. But he was kind, dedicated and passionate about teaching sport. I still remember so many great lessons, funny how I can't remember many from my other school subjects!
